Not far from Skopje, between the villages of Kuchkovo and Gorno Svilare, lies Kuchkovo Waterfall, also called Kuchkovski Slap. This 6-meter-tall waterfall on the Reka stream draws both explorers and nature lovers with its unparalleled splendor.
Where It Is and How to Get There
The Kuchkovo Waterfall is situated in the hills next to the village of Kuchkovo, which is a part of the Municipality of Gjorce Petrov, and is only 15 kilometers northeast of Skopje. From the settlement, a gravel path that ends at the watchtower known as “Chaska” goes to the waterfall. The route is scenic, winding past abandoned mine shafts and excavations before arriving at the creek that feeds the cascade.
Historical and Natural Rarities
There are Roman ruins and other archeological sites close to the waterfall. This raises the location’s worth and draws in tourists who are curious about the past and ancient cultures.
Travel and Regional Culture
While the Municipality of Gjorce Petrov is working on measures for the development of tourism in this region, the Kuchkovo Waterfall is not a well-known tourist attraction. Visitors can experience nature by going on any of the several hiking trails that lead to the waterfall and the surrounding natural beauties.
